the opportunity Wellcome Trust is the world's largest medical research charity, with assets of £15 billion and an estimated expenditure of £600 million in 1999/2000. This leading charity established an online presence primarily to keep audiences informed about developments in the medical world. But as their old website expanded, limitations with usability and management of its content emerged. Wellcome Trust came to Arbor Web Development for assistance.
the new approach The situation called for a complete reassessment of the client’s requirements. This led to a new design, restructuring of the site, and the development of a simpler, more logical way of navigating around the website. We incorporated applications to enable images from the database to be uploaded automatically to control access to restricted areas, and to manage application forms for grants. And we transferred and edited more than 1,200 existing pages into the new format.
total control of information and cost Wellcome Trust now manages the entire site, which has grown to almost 5,000 pages and receives around 1 million hits a month. Using our unique Builder site management system, their editorial team is able to create and edit up to 50 pages a day - without any involvement and cost from an outside agency.
